The Caves of Steel

Caves of Steel is the first novel in Isaac Asimov's Robot series, introducing readers to the memorable duo of Elijah Baley and R. Daneel Olivaw—with the "R" signifying "Robot". Originally, Caves of Steel wasn't considered part of the Foundation universe, but Asimov eventually interwove it as a precursor in the vast future history that culminates in the rise of the Galactic Empire. The novel uniquely blends science fiction and detective elements and is often credited as one of the first works to combine these genres. Set many millennia into the future where hyperspace travel has been realized and human colonization spans multiple worlds, the book offers a more dystopian vision than is typical for Asimov. Here, an overpopulated Earth compels its inhabitants to reside in sprawling underground dome cities, creating a stark contrast to the generally optimistic undertones prevalent in much of his other work. Caves of Steel remains one of Asimov's most acclaimed novels and was nominated for a retroactive Hugo Award in 2004.

The book has a previous owner's stamp on the front free-endpaper. Otherwise, book is near fine in a very good or better dust jacket with closed tears and light shelf wear. Overall, a nice copy.
