True UK signed first edition

Gnomon is a 2017 science fiction and dystopian novel by British author Nick Harkaway that delves into the implications of omnipresent surveillance in a near-future United Kingdom. Governed by a continuous direct democracy known as the System, the society is monitored by an AI called "The Witness," which is supposed to be an impartial guardian of public safety. Mielikki Neith, an inspector of the Witness Programme, is tasked with investigating the mysterious death of Diana Hunter, a luddite writer who died during her interrogation by the Witness.

As Neith dives into the complexities of Hunter's memories, she encounters a bewildering labyrinth of alternative lives and historical narratives—from a Greek investment banker's brush with a great white shark to the ancient alchemist lover of Augustine of Hippo. Each narrative seems to be interwoven with the others, blurring the line between reality and fabrication. Neith comes to question the integrity of her society's governance as she realizes that the transparency and justice she once believed in might actually be based on manipulation and control.
