Who Is Teddy Villanova? (1977) by Thomas Berger is a comedic noir novel following Russel Wren, a struggling Manhattan private eye drawn into an absurdist chain of menace, mistaken identity, and bureaucratic obstruction in pursuit of the elusive Villanova. A parody of the hardboiled detective tradition, stylistically indebted to Chandler and Hammett but played entirely for dark comedy.
