The Black Echo (1992) is Michael Connelly's debut novel and the first appearance of LAPD homicide detective Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch. Winner of the Edgar Award for Best First Novel, it follows Bosch investigating the murder of a fellow Vietnam veteran, a case that leads into the fallout of a sophisticated bank heist. The novel launched Connelly's long-running Bosch series, later adapted into the television series. Signed and inscribed by Connelly on the title page: "Mika / So you want to be / a writer. / Good luck and God / bless — you'll need it! / Michael Connelly."
