The Artificial Kid

The Artificial Kid is Bruce Sterling's second novel, published before the cyberpunk movement had fully coalesced. Set on a far-future planet where a combat artist films his own street fights for a media-saturated public, it anticipates many of the themes Sterling would develop more rigorously in later work. More science fiction adventure than dystopia, but of interest as an early work by one of the genre's founders. Sterling co-edited the landmark cyberpunk anthology Mirrorshades in 1986. Review copy with publicity slip laid in, and signed by Sterling on the title page.
