First printing of the first U.S. edition, identified by the statement "FIRST PRINTING, FEBRUARY 1973" on the copyright page followed by a vertical sequence of printings through "TENTH PRINTING," as called for in the true first printing per the Levack bibliography. A separate Canadian issue, marked "Printed in Canada," carries only the first printing statement without the vertical sequence.
