Terminal Beach

Paperback original, 1964
Published as a paperback original by Berkley Books in 1964, The Terminal Beach presents a substantially different selection of stories from the British hardcover issued the same year. While it retains the title novella, a psychological fugue set on a nuclear testing island, this edition places greater emphasis on urban paranoia and social conditioning. It is distinguished by the inclusion of “The Subliminal Man” (1963), a classic dystopian satire in which giant roadside advertisements transmit invisible commands that drive compulsive consumption. Other notable inclusions are “The Venus Hunters” (1963) and “The Time-Tombs” (1963).

This edition collects: “End-Game” (1963), “The Subliminal Man” (1963), “The Last World of Mr. Goddard” (1960), “The Time-Tombs” (1963), “Now Wakes the Sea” (1963), “The Venus Hunters” (1963), “Minus One” (1963), “The Sudden Afternoon” (1963), and “The Terminal Beach” (1964).
