Caduceus Wild

Paperback original, 1978
Caduceus Wild first appeared as a four-part serial in Science Fiction Stories (January through May 1959), written by Ward Moore and Robert Bradford, before being reworked and published as this Pinnacle Books paperback in 1978. The story is set in a future society called the Medarchy, where medicine has become the governing ideology. Every citizen is a patient, physicians hold absolute legal authority, and dissidents are not imprisoned or executed but "cured," their memories and personalities erased. The protagonists, Cyrus Tarn and Virginia Carling, are among a small underground of "mallies," the maladjusted, who resist the system and attempt to flee.
