Futureland - Nine Stories of an Imminent World

Signed first edition, 2001
Futureland: Nine Stories of an Imminent World (2001) is a linked story collection by Walter Mosley, better known for his Easy Rawlins detective series, set in a near-future America of extreme corporate power, racial stratification, and technological surveillance. The nine stories share a common world but follow different characters across its geography, from a child with apparent psychic abilities living in poverty to genetically engineered athletes, imprisoned populations, and citizens navigating a society in which wealth and race determine not just opportunity but physical reality. Mosley draws on the African American experience of exclusion and systemic oppression to give the collection a political grounding that distinguishes it from most near-future SF of its era. Dedicated to Danny Glover. Signed and dated by Mosley on the title page.
