Radio Free Albemuth is a posthumously published science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick originally written in 1976 but rejected by his publisher. It was Dick's first attempt at writing about his religious visionary experiences from February and March of 1974 ("2-3-74" as he called it). The novel is an alternate history in which the United States is run by a corrupt, McCarthy-esque president, Ferris F. Fremont ("FFF"). Conspiracy theories and paranoia run rampant, and the U.S. resembles a sort of neo-fascist, police state where people are encouraged to inform on their friends and neighbors. A resistance movement is organized through a beamed radio transmission from an alien artificial intelligence or network named VALIS. Like his novel VALIS, the book is autobiographical and Dick himself is a major character in the story.
Adapted into a film (same title) in 2010 and directed by John Alan Simon with actor Shea Whigham as Philip K. Dick.
