Notes from the Burning Age

The Burning Age by Claire North is a dystopian novel set in a post-apocalyptic Europe after a cataclysmic fire burns down all of the old civilization, which is depicted as an era of excess wealth, climate disaster, and heresy. A new Temple faith and its governing council becomes the new world order, and any records or materials of the past are closely guarded to protect mankind from triggering another cataclysmic event. It is reminiscent of Walter M. Miller's A Canticle for Leibovitz. The story concerns a member of the Temple faith who must becomes a spy and infiltrates a revolutionary group, the Brotherhood, that would like to return to the old heretical ways of the past. Claire North is the pen name for British writer Catherine Webb.
