A Mask for the General

A Mask for the General is a dystopian novel set in a near-future United States under military dictatorship. The resistance takes the unusual form of a community of maskmakers who draw on tribal animist traditions, creating totem masks that connect their wearers to animal spirits. Their ambition extends to the General himself, believing that giving him a mask might restore his lost humanity.
