PKD Tarot: The Fool's Journey of Philip K. Dick

Signed set that belonged to Tessa
The PKD Tarot: The Fool's Journey of Philip K. Dick is a limited-edition tarot deck developed by PKD scholar Ted Hand and tarot artist Christopher G. Wilkey, published by Wide Books in 2019. The 80-card deck draws on Dick's novels, theological preoccupations, and the visionary experiences of February and March 1974 that he called "2-3-74," the same period that generated VALIS and the voluminous Exegesis. The accompanying booklet frames tarot as Gnostic allegory, a framing Dick himself would likely have found congenial.

Beyond the tarot proper, the deck includes rules for two card games with specific ties to Dick's fiction. One is based on A Maze of Death and uses the trigrams of the I Ching as its structural basis. The other draws on Ubik and centers on entropy and energy as competing game mechanics. The connection between the I Ching and Dick's work is not incidental: he consulted the Book of Changes while writing The Man in the High Castle and referenced it throughout his career.

The original run was limited to 80 copies. This set is numbered 78 of 80 and was owned by Tessa Dick, Philip K. Dick's fifth wife, who has signed the box alongside Hand and Wilkey.
