Reservation Blues (1995) is Alexie's first novel, in which the ghost of blues musician Robert Johnson arrives on the Spokane Reservation and hands his cursed guitar to Thomas Builds-the-Fire, setting off a chain of events that leads a reservation band to New York City and a fateful audition.
