The Catcher in the Rye

BOMC edition with Salinger photo

J.D. Salinger's classic novel, The Catcher in the Rye, follows the disillusioned teenager Holden Caulfield as he navigates the challenges of adolescence in 1950s New York City. Through Holden's cynical lens, the novel delves into themes of innocence, identity, and the struggles of coming of age. This edition is an early Book-of-the-Month Club Edition, with the 1951 date on the title page, and the full portrait photo of Salinger by Lotte Jacobi on the rear panel of the dust jacket. In later Book Club editions, Salinger demanded that the photo be removed.

Hardcover. Book-of-the-Month Club Edition. Octavo, black cloth, with gilt-stamped spine and deckled page edges. Folded BOMC pamphlet for the book with a "report" by Clifton Fadiman included. Boston: Little Brown, 1951. Burgess, Ninety-Nine Novels. #10373.
The book and its dust jacket are both stained. While there's some cockling to the interior pages, the inside remains mostly clean and unmarked. Overall, the copy presents as very good in dust jacket.
