Nine Stories is a collection of short fiction by J.D. Salinger and his second book to be published. Most of the stories previously appeared in The New Yorker magazine. The collection features two of Salinger's most famous stories: "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" and "For Esmé—with Love and Squalor." The other stories are: "Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut", "Just Before the War with the Eskimos", "The Laughing Man", "Down at the Dinghy", "Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes", "De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period" and "Teddy".

This first printing of the first edition is also a review copy with a rare advance publicity letter laid into the book
.

Hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, cloth binding, stamped in gilt on spine. Boston: Little Brown, 1953. #10374.
Slight rubbing to the spine's gilt and minor bumps to the corners, otherwise the book is near fine. The dust jacket is very good or better, exhibiting minor wear and nicks to extremities and a hint of fading along the spine. On the publicity letter, someone has doodled the math equation of 1953 minus 1919, obviously calculating Salinger's age at the time.
