The Drowned World

The Drowned World by J. G. Ballard is a post-apocalyptic novel and an early example of climate fiction. It deals with catastrophic effects due to global warming and climate change. In the book, global warming has rendered most of the Earth uninhabitable. The setting is London, which is mostly submerged underwater and overwrought by out-of-control plant life, amphibians, and reptiles. It is Ballard's second book and first book published in hardcover.

Hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, red paper covered boards. London: Gollancz, 1962. Pringle, Science Fiction: The 100 Best Novels (35). #10723.
Faint foxing to page edges, else a fine copy in a nearly fine first printing dust jacket (code "X22" at bottom right corner of rear panel and price "15/- / net" on front flap). There is a hint of soiling to the otherwise bright yellow dust jacket with slight wear to upper right corner and tip of front panel. A superior copy of a very tough book to find in nice condition.
