Profundis

Profundis (1979) by Richard Cowper is a comic science fiction novel set aboard the HMS Profundis, a nuclear submarine of enormous scale whose intelligent computer prevents it from carrying out its mission of destruction, leaving the vessel and its crew as survivors of the nuclear holocaust the submarine was meant to help cause. Trapped beneath the surface by lethal radiation levels above, the submarine passes through a century of increasingly deranged command. First edition published by Victor Gollancz.
