I Hope I Shall Arrive Soon collects ten previously uncollected stories and a major essay spanning nearly thirty years of Dick's career. The collection opens with "How to Build a Universe That Doesn't Fall Apart Two Days Later," a speech Dick delivered in 1978 that serves as one of his clearest statements on the nature of reality and the purpose of his fiction. The stories range from the early 1950s through 1980 and include "Rautavaara's Case," first published in Omni in 1980, and the title story, which appeared in Playboy in December 1980 under the title "Frozen Journey." It was the last collection published during his lifetime, appearing in 1985, three years after his death. First American hardcover edition.
