The Sirens of Titan (1959) by Kurt Vonnegut, his second novel, follows Malachi Constant, the richest man in America, and Winston Niles Rumfoord, whose passage through a cosmic anomaly has stretched his existence as wave phenomena between the Sun and Betelgeuse. The novel moves from Earth to Mars to Titan, using its science fiction architecture to address questions about free will, human purpose, and the indifference of the universe to both. First published as a Dell paperback original in 1959.
