Son

Son (2012) is the concluding volume of the Giver Quartet and the only one to return directly to the Community of The Giver. Its protagonist is Claire, a Birthmother who was present at the birth of Gabriel, the infant Jonas carries away at the end of the first novel. The book is structured in three parts, following Claire from the Community through years of isolation in a coastal village and finally into a confrontation with the Trademaster, a figure who has appeared across all four books as the embodiment of corrupting desire. The novel brings the quartet's multiple storylines to resolution.
