Additional Details
Galactic Pot-Healer is one of Philip K. DIck's most imaginative novels. It begins on Earth, where society is repressed and under constant surveillance by a totalitarian regime. The protagonist is Joe Fernwright, a sort of everyman who fixes pots for a living, and who seems to be searching for a meaning and purpose to his life.  Things change when he is summoned to another planet by the Glimmung, an ancient godlike, alien creature who is assembling groups of artisans from various worlds for a sacred mission, which involves raising an ancient cathedral from the depths of a vast alien ocean. Dick also wrote a juvenile novel set in the same universe called Nick and the Glimmung, but it was published after he died.
