Logan's Run

First British hardcover, Inscribed to Herb Yellin
Logan's Run (1967) by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson is set in a future society where overpopulation is controlled through mandatory death at twenty-one, with enforcers known as DS men hunting anyone who attempts to flee. Basis for the 1976 film starring Michael York and Jenny Agutter. First British edition of Logan's Run in the movie tie-in dust jacket, a hybrid copy that Nolan himself explains in the inscription.

Association Copy. Signed and inscribed by Nolan to his long-time friend and publisher Herb Yellin on the half-title page: "For Herb / This 'hybrid' Logan / consisting of the British first / edition (1968) with their / 'movie' dustjacket (1976) / photo-printed from / plates of the Dial / Edition (1967)!! / With the friendship of the / Logan Man — William F. Nolan / Bill / Feb. 20, '79 / Messy, eh wot? (and I was cold sober when I wrote this inscription)." Beneath the inscription Nolan has drawn an open hand displaying a blue and red flower, with the quote: "And may your palm never go black!" — a reference to the palm crystals of the novel's death-at-twenty-one premise.
