Woken Furies

Woken Furies (2005) is the third and final Kovacs novel, returning the action to Kovacs's home world of Harlan's World, a planet whose skies are patrolled by ancient alien defense systems that make air travel dangerous and keep the population effectively ground-bound. Kovacs is being hunted by a younger version of himself, a previous stored copy reloaded by his enemies, while pursuing a personal mission of revenge against the planet's theocratic ruling class. The novel is the most politically explicit of the three, with a deep examination of how religious and corporate authority maintain control over populations that might otherwise resist.
