Zero History
Signed first edition, 2010
Zero History (2010) concludes William Gibson's Blue Ant Trilogy. Hollis Henry returns, now working as a freelance operative for Hubertus Bigend, the founder of the global marketing agency Blue Ant, who assigns her to locate the designer behind a clandestine clothing label that circulates entirely outside conventional fashion channels. Running parallel is the story of Milgrim, a recovering drug addict working under Bigend's control as a surveillance operative, whose sections carry a quieter tension than Hollis's and whose gradual reassembly of self is one of the novel's more unexpected emotional threads.
The search for the label draws both characters into territory where brand strategy, military contracting, and intelligence work are largely indistinguishable from one another. Gibson presents a world where the same methods are used to sell clothing and run covert operations, and where power is exercised through the control of information.
